  • What is better - LCD or Plasma televisions?

There are advantages and disadvantages to both:

Plasma over LCD:

Advantages:

  1. You can get larger screen sizes, but that technology is changing everyday.
  2. Plasma has a better contrast ration and deeper blacks.
  3. Better color saturation and accuracy.
  4. Very little if no motion lag - meaning that when you are watching a football game and the camera is following a player running across the field, there is less if no blur between the areas of motion.
  5. Wider viewing angle.

Disadvantages:

  1. Plasma TVs can burn-in static images. If you watch a TV station that has their logo in the bottom corner of the screen - if you do it long enough, a "ghost" image can appear when you are watching something else. If you pause a recorded image and forget about it, most TVs have a "Screen Saver" to protect your TV.
  2. Plasma TVs generate more heat. (Uses more energy).
  3. Does not perform well in higher altitudes.
  4. Shorter lifespan, but that technology is changing everyday.
  5. More problems with screen glare

  2. Objects in motion can have more of a blur or "digitized" effect. The technology is changing improving the images with faster refresh rates.
  3. Larger sizes are not as accessible to the general public, but that is changing.
  4. Individual pixels can burn out leaving small black or white dots that will appear on the screen at all times.
  5. LCDs are more expensive, but that my change in time.
